Manual Steering Conversion Kit for Jeep CJs – $175
This manual steering kit is designed to be used with the L134/F134 engines with stock motor mounts. It uses steering boxes from my list of donor vehicles that are of a Reverse Rotation Ford design. The installation is a bit more complicated with some minor modifications. No welding required. This mounting bracket is a bolt in design. The handling improvements are very good with almost no frame flex as with other steering kit designs.
Manual steering kits are available for the stock 4 cylinder applications only. There isn’t sufficient room for a power steering box. This kit requires some modifications to the front engine mount and the lower radiator outlet for clearance.
(NOTE: Dayco hose number 71762 is a nice molded hose that you can use a portion of on your lower radiator hose to allow more clearance.)
Steering boxes with a 30 Spline Shaft are a Slow Ratio Box.
Steering boxes with a 36 Spline Shaft are a Fast Ratio Box.

A conversion kit is not a direct replacement. It is a kit that replaces the stock system because of safety, better wear and durability, and better availability of parts whether it is for brakes, steering or drivetrain components. Conversion kits are designed for assistance in the replacement of stock components and may require some alterations that may differ from the normal installation procedures. Some fabricating skills may be needed.
